1166 |
Scinton is born. |
1182 |
Plague
sweeps through kingdom of Grunburg. Priests are unable to heal
its magical curse. It is later discovered that the disease was created
by the fiends of the Lands of Chaos to kill off the free world. |
1183 |
Krill the Dragon Charmer visits the monastary The Refuge
Deep, seemingly immune to the plague which had infested the outpost.
He is of the Order of Krill, their leader, a group of mages from the
northlands of the Dwarves. He visits his friend, a priest of the Refuge,
Ragot Alexander. Abbot Brock, the head of the monastary came down
with the plague while Krill was yet there. Krill heals him after Brock
sells his soul to the devil. For protection from the disease, cursing
their gods for allowing such a sickness that only evil could cure.
|
1184 |
Abbot Brock studies and embraces the black arts, jealous
of their destructive power, which his god had never granted him. He
seeks to lead the Order of Krill, using all his energies to learn
enough to defeat its founder. |
1185 |
Scinton the
Wonderous, a talented student of Magic in the small town
of Alexander, researches the first in a string of spells to be cast
upon seeds, which makes them larger. -Alexander reaps its first crop
of oversized vegetables, which sell very well, bringing in three times
the normal income for its farmers that use his special seeds. Those
not using them are made believers at once. |
1186 |
-Abbot Brock faces off with Krill. Krill is victorious, chas- ing
the remainining followers of Abbot Brock running for their very
lives.
-Scinton's parents become fabulously wealthy, a goal of the former
poor farm boy.
|
1187 |
Brock seeks out the renowned witch Wayloe of Glint in
her badlands cave. He learns of the power given by spirits and learns
to summon them. |
1188 |
Abbot Brock summons the spirits of those of the Refuge
that had died of the plague. He tells them correctly that the Order
of Krill is in league with the Chaos Lords, and theat they created
the plague. The spirits are sent to destroy all within the Citadel,
which they do. |
1189 |
Scinton the Wonderous researches spells to make cattle
larger and hardier. Alexander's cattle are huge and tasty, fattening
up quickly. Cattle ranching becomes a major cash industry in Alexander.
The ACA (Alexander Cattle Association) is formed to keep the secrets
of the cattle for Alexander only. |
1196 |
Abbot Brock is successful in learning to keep back the
ravages of time, though he and his cardinals become less and less
human over time, eventually becoming fully undead. |
1197 |
Scinton, now president of Grunburg University, creates
the first potion to reduce age. More would follow as well as curses
to cause aging to enemies. |
1296 |
-Invention of the Printing Press. 1309
-Kingdom of Talentia formed, with Alexander as its headquarters.
-Fredrik of Gritre named king. He rules with taxes and an iron
fist.
|
1332 |
Complition of the Alexander Wall. 1338 -Completion of
Castle Imberwick in Alexander, housing its royal family. |
1342 |
-King Fredrik dies.
-His bastard son, Kirimon Devilsoak is crowned. He rules with equity
and justice, though with much taxes.
|
1346 |
Grunburg University gets grants for advanced magical
research. It becomes the center of learning for the arcane arts for
all of Jera. |
1373 |
Kirimon's first son, Nikkoli, weds Shenderre, the princess
of Grunburg . |
1396 |
-Kirimon dies.
-Nikkoli becomes king.
-Talentia and Grunburg unite under one crown. The resulting kingdom
is named Asterland, the land of celestial wonder, the thought being
that a kingdom so grand would come of the union that the gods them
selves would take notice.
|
1398 |
Grunburg is attacked by the Broken Arm League from the
north, consisting of Orcs, Trolls, Ogres, and Goblins. The war lasts
two years. It is finally won by enlisting the gold dragon Elixis. |
1400 |
Achella Stormdriver invents the magic engine. |
1407 |
Invention of the Focal Amulet, which increases a mage's
number of spells cast per day, making spells cheaper to cast, and
bringing magical items within the grasp of the common man. |
1408 |
Magical heating core invented, providing heat to common
homes cheaply and without the burning of coal or wood. Cities become
much more habitable as the smoky haze of large cities is all but eliminated.
|
1411 |
-Magimotive Bicycle introduced, the first cost efficient form of
transportation besides the horse. Top speed of the bicycle is 35mph,
roads permitting. 1412
-Major funding for paved (cobblestone)th the rest of the "civilized
world."
|
1416 |
Geyon companies hire away many technimages from Grunburg,
investing heavily in high-powered focal amulets. Industries spring
up out of nowhere and sweatshops line the industrial districts of
the rapidly growing town. |
1417 |
-Geyon is linked to the railroad system. The first train robbery
takes place here by Derokin's Outriders, a band of outlaws belonging
to the House of Jarak, a mobster working out of Alexander. Diervelli
Jarak, a crime boss, deals in running "spice," a hallucinogen narcotic.
-Armed marshalls now ride aboard the trains, mage-wizards packing
wands of magic missiles.
|
1418 |
-Formation of magipunk society, with the agenda of learning "forbidden
magic," or technology.
-Introduction of the rapidfire crossbow. 2 bolts/round can be fired
with increased accuracy, less training than the bow, and greater
range than a bow. The common man arms himself, and a feeling of
the wild west awakens. Boltslingers drift from town to town and
outlaws become far more common, but for once, the average man can
defend himself. The rapidfire crossbow can be of two varieties:
a handheld model that does d4+1 and a shoulder mounted model that
does d8. A third, military version, is introduced as well, firing
heavy bolts which do d12+2, have a range of 500 yards, and are mounted
on a swivel mount ideal for trains and cart. They are much too large
for a man to carry, though wheeled versions may be pushed by a man.
|
1419 |
-Armored car introduced. 4 men can fit into it, one
of which is the driver. A rapidfire ballista is mounted to the front
of it, which does d20 and has a range of 800 yards, complete with
a scrying sight, usable by the everyday man. |
1420 |
-Repeating catapult invented: a long tube with a metal
bucket which traverses its length at high speed, then returns to its
cocked state for refilling with rocks or grapeshot. Tube is mounted
on swivel base, and can be aimed high in the air, making it ideal
vs. flying monsters. |
1422 |
Magipunks create a scrying device for looking into the
'future'. Device really look into Jera's past. They befriend and form
alliance with Gnomes. |
1431 |
Political unrest in Alexander and throughout the land.
Growing hatred of kings and their influence. Much talk of the need
for rule by the people. |
1439 |
-King Nikkoli increases taxes and destroys printing presses throughout
the land.
-King Nikkoli is assassinated. The Freedom Society of Grunburg
claims credit.
-Prince Gustav named king. His life threatened repeatedly by the
Freedom Society, who demand that a common voice be heard in the
governing of Asterland.
|
1440 |
King Gustav forms the Circle of the Krenz, an elected
political voice with control over matters of day-to-day governing
of the kingdom of Asterland, centered in Alexander, though he retains
power to make law. He uses the Circle for advice as to what to do,
as indicators of the will of the people. He gives more and more power
to the Circle, but maintains veto power on all they do. |
