The most sought-after magical item would probably be the focal amulet. They come in nine different varieties, each a different color: brown, grey, black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and pearl, each of which provides and extra spell of their level, 1 through 9 respectively. A brown focal amulet costs 2,000. For each additional spell level, the cost about doubles.
Level | Color | Cost (gold) | Slang Name
1 | brown | 2,000 | Woodie | |
2 | Copper | 4,000 | Kettle | |
3 | Black | 8,000 | Ebony Eye | |
4 | Red | 16,000 | Bleeder | |
5 | Pink/White | 32,000 | Mystic
6 | Yellow | 64,000 | Solstone
7 | Green | 125,000 | Booger | |
8 | Red-Violet | 250,000 | Dragon's Eye

Spell casting is a risky thing. As a mage becomes more fatigued, he may become the subject of horrors from the abyss, seeking entrance into our world. They invade the mind, often causing insanity, phobias, or one of a host of mental problems, which may be of a temporary nature, or the more long-lasting.
One can shield oneself from these psionic entities by use of a wizard's robe. The symbols ward off the demons that lurk in the darkest part of one's nightmares. Spellcasting without a robe can call one to the mage. This is common among low level spellcasters, who cannot afford the protective robes. An apprentice will often work beyond his length of manditiory service to be able to afford one. It is not necessarily given free of charge to an apprentice, due to the cost of making one.
Using the last remaining spell that a caster has available to him will result in a chance of attracting a horror, usually 1%. If a mage casts more spells than they have available to them, they risk a 5% chance/level of the spell of summoning a mental demon.
