She was caught studying secret, forbidden knowledge about necromancy in the restricted section of the library. She wanted to understand how undead creatures were made in order to find a way to destroy them, especially the undead fey that plague Soulford. When she was caught, the abbey leaders searched her room and found that as part of her investigation into necromancy, she had actually created a small undead frog.
Upon advancing to a rank of temple leadership, she learned that a primary purpose of the temple was to conduct experiments as part of their association with The Genus Order, a group that is gaining influence in Asterland. It focuses upon improving the human race at a biological level to make them stronger, faster, more intelligent, and so on. They see other races and species as inferior. Amriel believes that all of God's creatures are equal, and should be treated with equal respect.
Amriel has an extensive knowledge of how to raise the dead, though little of it is hands-on working knowledge, though she has created small undead creatures and constructs imbued with the souls of small creatures.
Amriel's father was a military leader in Estersall castle. He served as a leader of field medics, and Amriel sought one day to heal the afflicted as her father did. An adventurous child, she often wandered the woods north of Estersall where the veil between this world and the realm of the fey are thinnest. She made friends with a small group of wandering satyrs who frequently crossed into the fey realm.
As a child, she received an invitation to a fey party in the woods near Estersall. It proved to be one of the most memorable occasions that left a lasting impression on her. She learned about kindness, giving, and compassion when she was introduced to their culture, customs, and beliefs throughout the celebration. She made friends with several pixies, and she even got chance to converse with several of the elusive dryads, which allowed her to learn more about their ancient traditions and beliefs. She was moved by this experience, deepening her compassion and generosity towards all of god's creations.
