The rockers are the definative in what is "cool." Many of them have a social adgenda and the music is their way of spreading the message, while others just revel in the noise. Many of the "purists" look down on those who the see as having "sold out," caring less for the music than for the money. A few of these bands have a strong following, but a good agent can usually get you furthur than good songs in a market that looks to others to decide for them what they will like. Like rock stars of our own world, they attract women by the score (even some of the female rockers). Rockers are a subculture all themselves. The wages they draw allow for fast living and extravagence in every aspect of their life. They drive the most spendy magimotive carts or velocipedes and live in the hotels that would cost a working man a month's wage for a night's stay. These are, of course, the popular rockers, which for every one of them, there are twenty still working the taverns and night clubs trying to get noticed. Magically amplified guitars, harpsicords, trumpets, and drum make up the most popular instruments used by the magipunk rockers. The instruments are far louder than their nonmagical counterparts, but they sometimes also have magical enhancements that actually alter the moods of the crowd. While the purist rockers will not stoop to using such enhanced instruments, they are more common among the trendy groups on the way up. They can pump out levels of noise that can do damage not only to the ears of the concert goers, but not do any good for the masonry work in the establishments they play in either. One Sheravon Kieslev, a punker originally from the dwarven lands to the north of Grunburg, developed the enhanced guitar, or E-guitar as the punk say, as a way to effectively annoy his neighbors who refused to keep their dog quiet during the day, when he slept. As a general rule, rockers are night owls. Sleep is something that happens to them as a result of alcohol, not by choice. Some of the premiere acts are really something to see. "The Banshees", for example, include illusions and actual caged monsters as part of the act. Use your imagination a bit as to what today's concerts would be like if one could add illusions and magical creations and you will begin to see what is possible. There are several types of music popular with the punkers. "Flash-clas" was the first trend in punker music. Basically it consisted of classical orchestrated music sped up and played lout on magically enhanced instruments. This fad held on for a while, but the punkers could not be satisfied long by a rework of the status quo, though it retains popularity among many of the more mainstream youth. Soon the music began to develop as a seperate entity from the music of the rest of the world. Themes are often dark and moody, dwelling upon the imperfections of the world around us. This type of music is often called "razor", after the number of the moody artists that have killed themselves. The more mainstream bands created their own sound, labelled "frolick", which is happy and upbeat. This style of music appeals to those that follow the punk trends because that is what others around them are doing, and is looked down on by the more "serious" artists. "Velocity" is yet another musical style that gains in popularity. It is the hardest rock and certainly the noisiest. A popular attraction outside velocity concerts are healers to restore the hearing of the concert goers. "Shock" relies on lyrics that are offensive to most. They use vulgar language and references to spice use and sex. The crowd that shock appeals to are anything but appealing to most. They are characterized by lack of hygiene and long, greasy hair. They are those that think that they are punk, but are not considered so by magipunks of any other class. They are the wannabe's that never will be. They have a strong following with what society deems losers. Most new music come out of Grunburg, though more and more is coming from other places as the magipunks gain footholds in other places. With new gear that allows even the nonmagically talented to access the flow, many of the more popular bands are beginning to "broadcast" into the flow. This is also giving many unknown bands the chance to be heard by many. The newer flow goggles are small and portable, difficult to distinguish from common solglasses. The punks often walk around town with them on. Though the goggles are visual only, the newest models also incorporate sound into their design. You hear the music in your head, not through a device in your ear. The following are some of the more popular groups, where they hail from, and what type of music that they play.
